from 7/7/10
The Marshall Community Band performs six outdoor concerts during the months of June and July. Our 45 to 50 local musicians, several with music degrees, play a variety of music including show tune medleys, marches, ragtime, Dixieland, and traditional concert band pieces. A typical concert draws about 300 citizens with lawn chairs. The largest audience is always the patriotic concert performed at the Brooks Memorial Fountain in downtown Marshall at the annual July Chicken Barbecue celebration (held this year on July 3rd) sponsored by the Marshall Chamber of Commerce.
All concerts begin at 7:00 pm except for concert #3 on July 3rd which begins at 11:00 AM (at the Brooks Memorial Fountain).
The band shell is located at Stuart's Landing at 603 Homer Road. Stuart's Landing is a pleasant park with geese next to the Kalamazoo River. A limited amount of parking is available at the park entrance. More parking is located further east of the shell at the City of Marshall Municipal Garage. From there it is a scenic walk along the new boardwalk to Stuart's Landing. A restroom building and drinking fountain is located near the band shell.
The Marshall Rotary Club has faithfully supported the band financially since 1979.
